Persians:  The Cat of Royalty

Persian Cats are one of the most beautiful and most popular cat breeds.

History
The breed originally came from the areas of Turkey and Persia (Iran) where historically they were owned by royalty.  It is believed that Persian cats were first brought to Europe during the Crusades when Crusaders would return from their journeys to the Far East. Once in Europe, kings, queens and lords also prized the Persian.

Personality
Persians will live in tranquilly with other cats, dogs and children. Persian cats do not like to climb and jump. They have a placid and gentle demeanor that makes them a must have.  Persians are also quiet cats and are very affectionate.   

Appearance
Persians come in seven different color divisions. 
Color Divisions:  Solid, Silver and Golden, Shaded and Smoke, Tabby, Particolor, Bicolor and Himalayan. 

Colors can range from speckled brown and gray to pure snowy white and everything in-between.  The eye color is dependent on the color of the coat.   The coat of the Persian is long and flowing and requires daily grooming.

Persian Cats are one of the most beautiful and most popular cat breeds.  There only downfall is also what makes them delightful: there eye-catching coat.  Persian’s require DAILY grooming to prevent tangles and hairballs.

Persian Facts

Best Out of Sixty
Florence Nightingales favorite cat was a large Persian named Mr. Bismarck, “the most sensitively affectionate of cats, very gentle. ….who never makes a mistake.” Nightingale is believed to have owned around 60 felines during her lifetime.

Litter of 14
A Persian cat from South Africa named Bluevell successfully gave birth to 14 kittens in one litter. Bluevell’s kittens all survived giving her the record for having the most kittens at once.

Size Small Please
One of the world’s smallest cats is a male blue point Himalayan-Persian named "Tinker Toy." He is just 2.75 inches tall and 7.5 inches long!
