How Lucky Can You Get? Bailey Knows!
Someone once said, “ A mutt is couture… it’s the only one like it in the world, made especially for you.”. And when our mutt “Bailey” was abandoned and left to die, he could only hope his luck would change fast!

The only thing certain about luck is that eventually it will change. Left for dead on the side of a busy road, Bailey’s luck needed to change fast…and as luck would have it the Bickell family came driving by. They spotted Bailey in the middle of the road and thought he was dead. Deciding to be a Good Samaritan and not just drive by, they stopped and made their way through the busy traffic to Bailey’s side. To their pleasant surprise Bailey looked up and wagged his dirty little tail. Although alive, he was a mess. Terribly flea bitten, anemic and with his stomach filled with worms they rushed him to the vet and eventually to his “Mutt Makeover.”
Bailey was one of the lucky ones and was able to find a family that is loving and compassionate. But that is not the case with thousands of animals each year who are tossed aside with no place to go. The chant of “Save a SATO”…slang for “stray and abandoned dogs.” is becoming the battle cry for thousands of Foster families across the country who open their homes and hearts to abandoned or sick animals who are desperately in need of a second chance.
One of the biggest problems facing animal rescue and adoption organizations since the beginning of the war on terror is the dumping of family pets on the street when an owner is deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. The numbers of abandoned animals if getting so large, that many have to be euthanized.
Our lucky guy Bailey has come through the battle and the war, only to prove that if you wait long enough your luck is bound to change.
Here the 3 most common reasons for an animal to go into Foster Care…
- Kittens and puppies are too young to be spayed or neutered.
- Cats or dogs who are nursing their litter need to raise them in a home environment where they can receive the proper socialization.
- Cats and dogs that are sick and require daily medications and TLC.
