Dogs Eat Anything And Everything…But Is It Safe?

We’ve been told that it is a “dog eat dog world". And although you may never have seen a dog eat another dog, we’ve seen them eat just about anything else, but is it safe?

Dr. Jenna Caster educates us on what everyday household items and foods can be toxic even deadly, should Rover decide he wants to partake!

Things like antifreeze, grapes, raisins, and yes as hard to believe as it might be…chocolate, could send “man’s best friend to “doggie heaven”. Dr. Caster teaches us how to save your dog should they decide to consume these for a midnight snack.

How to protect your dog from eating toxic snacks:

Know your dog! Does he pick up just about anything in his mouth?

  1. Make sure that your dog knows what “Leave it” and “Give” means!
  2. Know what dangers lurk around your home, such as…
    • Rat poisons…which often are very tasty to dogs
    • Antifreeze…which tastes sweet and destroys their kidneys.

FYI: There is an anti-freeze product that is non-toxic. It has as it’s main ingredient “propylene glycol” instead of its poisonous sister “ethylene glycol”. If your dog does get into toxic antifreeze there is an antidote but you have to get to your vet ASAP as it’s time sensitive.
