A Match Made in Heaven
There are many lifelong commitments that we make in our lifetime…marriage, tattoos, taxes…but Luke learned the value of commitment through a wet nose and wagging tail.

For a teenage boy commitments are about as far from his thoughts as what makes up the “gross national product.” Most teenage boys are thinking about sports, video games and of course, girls!
Luke, on the other hand, had always dreamed of having a puppy, but it looked like his dream would never come true because his Mom was very allergic to dogs. But then as they often do, Grandma & Grandpa came to the rescue. They agreed to keep the puppy at their house as long as Luke committed to taking care of it. So putting the videogames aside Luke agreed and the search began.
There are many different places that one can go to adopt a pet these days; The Humane Society, animal shelters, the SPCA or animal rescue organizations. All of these groups save the lives of thousands of animals each year. They all agree on one very important bit of advice to folks considering pet adoption - know what your getting into!
Adopting a pet requires commitment of time and money…and this could go on for the next 15 years or so. So think it through before you take the plunge - your pet will appreciate it. Some of the things to consider before adopting should be…
- Why do you want a pet?
- Do you have the time & money?
- Can you have a pet where you live?
- Who will take care of the pet when you are away?
- Are you prepared to take care of your pet for a lifetime?
All organizations have their own requirements before you can take your pet home. Filling out an application and agreeing to a home inspection is not uncommon.
Luke was able to take his puppy home for a “trial run” to see if indeed it was a match made in heaven. Luckily for Luke and his pup it was. Animal rescue groups tell you that if you a pet home and it’s not a fit, please bring them back. NO DUMPING!
Our friend Luke soon discovered that the commitment to his new pet was worth it…as far as the video games and sports and girls are concerned the video games and sports can take a back seat to his new friend…the girls, well we’ll see.
