TOP RESCUE CAT: Baxter and Julie

I first saw Baxter in a bare cage of the local cat rescue organization. His right eye was swollen shut. He was so small the cage looked almost empty. But he looked up at me with his one good eye and couldn't walk away. I picked him up and he snuggled against me and my heart melted.
I immediately completed all the forms, bought $80 of approved food and toys and then took Baxter home. He was exhausted. I decided that they had lied about age. No way was he 3 months old- maybe 4 weeks old. He was smaller than my hand and I spent the first night worrying that he didn't know enough to keep warm. I kept waking up to make sure he was okay. He was so young that he suckled himself and as the weeks wore on I got used to falling asleep to the sound of him sucking on a spot on his tummy.
His eye finally cleared up (after three trips to the vet) and he got bigger....and bigger....and bigger. Today he is 17 pounds of Mr. Personality. He greets everyone who comes to the house, usually by making flying leaps onto their laps.
Now very contented loving his home … he spends hours at the sliding glass door "hunting" the bird on the patio-occasionally crashing into the glass forgetting it's there. And he loves to play soccer with the plastic tops of water bottles. Whack, with one paw, whack with the other paw, from one end the kitchen to the other.
In the evening he plops down on my paperwork, rolls over and reaches out to my face with one paw- just to make sure that I give him the attention he deserves! And since he has stolen my heart he absolutely gets my attention! I can't imagine my home without Mr. Bax!
