The “Mau”, the architect of “Catwoman?”
How can the oldest breed of cat in the world be associated with a comic book character?

If you watched either the old “Batman” series from the 60’s or the recent Catwoman movie staring Halle Berry you will know that Catwoman has been Batman’s nemesis for years. The movie revels that the “Mau” breed of cat has the power through its association with the Eqyptian goddess “Bastet” to bring back dead women from the grave with super powers. This of course was pure Hollywood storytelling…but what is the real story of the mysterious Mau?
The word “Mau” is the Egyptian word for Cat. They are believed to be the oldest domesticated cat in the world, going back over 4000 years.
The Mau held an important role in Egyptian mythology, religion and everyday life. Four thousand years ago the Mau was worshipped as a deity and even mummified at death…today they are just loved as devoted, faithful companions.
Aside from their mystical aura the Mau is known for being one of the smartest cats with lightning speed reflexes. In fact, if there was to be a race between a Mau and Giraffe…it would be a tie. Both can run a fast 36 mph. They come in three different color patterns…bronze, silver and smoke and prefer older adults and children to young kids.
Mau’s definitely are magical creatures…but do they have the power to be the architect of Batman’s famous adversary…who knows?
