On the Road Again!
It’s hot… it’s muggy… it’s the “dog days of summer” and Rover is saying…”it’s time for a road trip!” Are you prepared?

It’s a common sight…you’re driving down the road and a car pulls up
next to you. You look over and there is Rover, head out the window,
ears flapping in the breeze with what looks like a big smile on his face.
You look at the driver and smile back because you know what it takes
to go on a trip with your dog.
There’s so many things to consider and you’ve probably thought of
everything… like is the hotel pet-friendly?…will Rover poop in the back
seat of my new SUV? Our host Alex Boylan has a few things that you might want to put in your “doggie bag” before you hit the open road.
- If your dog’s not used to riding in the car, go on a test run to see how he does.
- Start healthy! Get a health certificate from your Vet as well as a Certificate of Rabies vaccination. It’s required if you cross state
lines.
- A temporary dog tag that has the name and address of the place that you will be staying in case Rover gets lost.
Also remember…
- Like Humans…dogs get carsick too! Be prepared!
- NEVER, EVER leave your dog in a parked car with the windows up.
- IF your plan is to leave your dog in a strange hotel room all day then do Rover, and the people in the room next door a favor…leave him at home with a “pet sitter” or in a “pet hotel” style kennel.
Oh, and by the way…as far as letting Rover travel with his head out the window…don’t do it. Not only is it dangerous but how would you like to dig bugs out of your teeth?
