The Smooth-as-Silk Havana Brown
The Havana Brown is one of the sleekest looking cats alive, but the
deep chocolate brown coat is only half the story when it comes to this "Franken-cat"

No the Havana Brown is not the work of a mad scientist, but not unlike the famous monster from a sci-fi movie, some extremely high-tech science went into creating this amazing cat. In Great Britain in 1950 breeders crossed a black domestic short hair and a brown Siamese. The result: a cat with a rich chocolate brown coat and as distinctive a face as you can find in the cat world!
Today the Havana Brown is as rare as it is unique, with only about a thousand in existence in the US. They are a playful bunch that will follow owners just like a dog. Their name comes from the deep brown color of their coat, which reminded the original breeders of the famous Cuban cigars. In other parts of the world, the Havana Brown is known as the Swiss Mountain cat. After WW II, breeding programs suffered and it took a group of English ladies in the 1950's to restore the breed.
A smart kitty, the Havana Brown uses its paws to both examine objects and communicate with its owners. If you're looking to find one, it may take a while because Havana Brown is listed as an endangered breed.
The Havana Brown is unique to gaze upon, and even more delightful to enjoy as a companion. Browns are very people-oriented and will often extend a paw to gain attention. With its charming manner and soft, gently voice, the Havana Brown would make an ideal pet, especially for a single person.
